Lorain County Pre- and Post-Release Project

3/13/2019

Under the Lorain County Pre- and Post-Release Project, we have the opportunity to work with those currently incarcerated both leading up to their release and immediately following their release. We provide peer support to inmates at both the Lorain County Jail and Community Based Correction Facility (CBCF).

While being incarcerated can temporarily suspend drug usage this does not address the underlying issues of addition. Providing peer support to those, who will be released in the near future or were recently released provides them with the emotional support tools they need to stay clean and begin a long-term recovery plan.

I have been on heroin for about a decade now and it has ruined my life in all ways possible!! I have also overdosed TOO MANY times to count!! Every time i have overdosed "Lets Get Real" has came to see me.. I have always turned down there help,, yet they always continue to come back.. They would even call my phone after i left the hospital,, days later,, to check up on me and see if i changed my mind and would take there offer of helping me!! Well finally i did.. September on 2019,, this year. I called them and they met with me at the hospital in the middle of the night,, they don't care what time it is,, they WILL COME!! Well it was late,, Reggie and Mark,, came to get me and my husband and took us both to a separate detox center. Reggie worked with me then and stuck by my side while i was sick,, drove all the way there and was amazing support and till this day he still is there for me!! Chris stayed,, i got stubborn and left,, they still worked with me and took me to another one. I was then medically discharged from that one. I went and picked up Chris from his treatment center and we went back home and started doing heroin AGAIN not even an hour after i picked him up. Well i overdosed two more times after that,, and on October 7th,, 2019,, a month later we talked to Mark that night before and told him we would be up to the office that next morning,, the morning of the 7th. We never went to sleep because were SO sick from withdrawing off heroin cause we didn't want to use anymore! We walked up to the office as soon as they opened and when i say i was extremely dope sick,, it was bad! They gave me a cot to lay on and i layed in that cot,, sweating,, freezing,, puking,, not eating!! It was bad.. They took Chris to detox and then Michelle took me all the way to Alliance,, Ohio. A tow hour drive,, maybe longer! I don't remember. I was laying in her backseat so damn sick! I got there and she still stayed with me for 3 1/2 more hours!! Still had to drive back another 2 1/2 hours or however long it took us to get there! & when she first picked me up she had just gotten back from taking another women into a different detox that was also far away and sitting with her and driving back only to get me and do the same thing!! These amazing people at "Let's Get Real" do everything they can for addicts that want to get help and need support and help getting there!! They break there backs to do whatever they can to help us!! I would NOT be where i am today if it wasn't for this team of people who worked together to find me somewhere to detox and start the journey of my recovery!! Today i am 47 days clean! I have been clean since the day i went to the office that day and Michelle took me to Alliance hospital to detox. She satyed by my side the whole time while i was sick until they admitted me!! She missed an appointment she had with family. She didn't have to stay with me after she got me there,, but she did!! I will forever be grateful to her and too all of the people at "Let's Get Real"!! My husband is ALSO still sober till this day! I am in sober living. I just enrolled into college. I just recently found out that my son who is turning nine in a week and a half wants to see me and knows that i am in treatment trying to get better! My family is slowly coming back in my life and talks to me on a regular basis!! I am not even at my two months of sobriety yet,, and look at everything i have already gained and accomplished!! I have SO much more to gain and to look forward too and it all started with these amazing people at "Let's Get Real"!! Thank you so much to all of you!! Especially Michelle,, Reggie,, Bubba,, and the woman who called the detox places for us and the director women! Those two women i don't remember there names but they are also a BIG factor in my recovery today! I know i am the MAIN person to be grateful too cause I am the one who was finally ready to really take the step to come here,, and when i tell you i was completely ready,, well i was!! Me and Christopher left our house,, everything in it,, and didn't take a second look back! I walked into the office with just the dirty cloths on my back and my folder that contained my important paper work,, Birth Certificate,, SS Card,, Marriage License,, etc... I didn't care about nothing else!! All i wanted was to get better!! I have never wanted to change more in my life then at that moment and that determination and motivation has not left my mind,, body,, soul,, and heart still till this day!!! Thank you guys!! <3

We were rebels in vessels. We prided ourselves with wearing what was viable. We were not hesitant to seem like we essentially moved out of a submarine on return from watch on which we had requesting water utilization obstacles and no beautician.
